Here are a couple of photos from Burton Mere:
Water Rail
A male Sparrowhawk caught a Starling in the garden. He then spent over 40 minutes sat by the fence consuming his meal.
The Green Woodpecker who has been visiting our garden off and on for several weeks was back again today.
This is a replacement for my old blog which I will move here over time.
A large flock of Waxwings has taken up residence on a Folkestone Retail Park..This tree contains a large part of the flock.
The birds are stripping berries from the trees on the park.
On our regular walks to Eastwell Church we have seen 2 adult Spotted Flycatchers – increasingly hard to find these days..
We have not seen any young birds – yet.
The White-tailed Lapwing is still present but decided to stay sat on the shingle. We saw a Purple Heron flying to and from the nest site.
We saw a small group of Tree Sparrows at the reserve entrance
and a Corn Bunting sang from the wires nearby. A Black-tailed Skimmer basked on the reeds at Dengemarsh.
Hamstreet Woods and King’s Wood and good for butterflies at this time of year. We saw White Admiral at both sites and Silver-washed Fritillary at Hamstreet, although both did not want to pose for the camera.
Here is a selection.
